Program Manager


The Program Manager for Breast Cancer Action (BCA) oversees the organization’s programs and program-based campaigns, including the award-winning Think Before You Pink ™ (TB4UP) campaign. The TB4UP campaign calls for more transparency and accountability by companies that sell products to raise money for breast cancer programs. The Program Manager fosters and builds BCA’s grassroots activities, national presence, and helps to implement the programmatic aspects of the strategic plan. Our programs are focused on decreasing involuntary environmental exposures that put people at risk for breast cancer, on advocating that the Federal government put patients’ needs before company profits, and on creating awareness about the political, economic, and racial inequities that lead to disparities in health outcomes.

The Program Manager must be self-motivated, an excellent multi-tasker, and able to enthusiastically embrace the mission and work of BCA. S/he supervises the Program Associate, program interns and volunteers. The Program Manager reports to the Deputy Director, and works closely with the entire BCA team.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all aspects of of BCA’s various programs and campaigns including public education, community organizing and outreach, public policy advocacy, coalition work, and coordination and growth of our nationwide network of volunteer activists
  • Supervise Program Associate and program interns
  • Provide leadership and direction in the growth of the organization and in achieving its mission, including ensuring our breast cancer work incorporates a social justice lens
  • Provide key leadership for Think Before You Pink campaign, including strategy development and implementation, member involvement, partner recruitment, and serve as a spokesperson for the campaign
  • Represent BCA on local and national coalitions, maintaining collaborative relationships with partner organizations, and building new relationships with relevant organizations
  • Supervise member and outreach activities including I & R, community presentations, and distribution of up-to-date educational materials
  • Integrate program work with other BCA departments including communications and development. This includes input on our newsletter, e-alerts, website, social marketing outlets, etc.
  • Assist in developing and managing Program budget
  • Work with Board of Directors on program issues/campaigns/topics as needed
  • Be an advocate, educator, and spokesperson for BCA

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have a demonstrated understanding and commitment to women’s health issues from a feminist perspective, as well as dedication to social and environmental justice, and grassroots organizing.

  • Four years of non-profit program experience with two years of community organizing. Corporate campaigning experience preferred
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with program design and evaluation
  • Experience in planning and facilitating workshops and trainings
  • Great organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Outcome and goal oriented with ability to work independently, multi-task and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Public health, public policy and/or research training preferred
  • Experience conducting outreach in underserved communities, especially communities of color
  • Proficiency in MS Office. Social networking skills a plus
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

 

COMPENSATION
Salary Range: $48,000 - $50,000 and includes excellent benefits. This is a full-time position. Work schedule will include some weekends and evenings as well as occasional travel.
