What Is a Pink Ribbon Doing on BCA’s Website?

BCA's Executive Director Barbara Brenner responds:

Those of you familiar with BCA's work, and our refusal to buy into pink ribbon mania, might be wondering what the pink ribbon is doing online in our Internet Flash movie.

As we crafted the launch of the Breast Cancer Puzzle Project phase of our Think Before You Pink campaign, we knew we wanted to reach beyond our core activists out into the general public. We wanted women and men across the country—especially those not yet familiar with BCA's perspectives and mission—to think about breast cancer in a new way. We also knew that for many people, breast cancer and the pink ribbon go hand-in-hand.

In order to grab people's attention, we decided to use an image they were familiar with: the pink ribbon. Our Internet Flash movie takes the pink ribbon and sheds light on it in a way most of you have not seen before.

Now that we've got your attention, I hope you'll join us in taking action. By now, you've probably sent a message to the major funders of breast cancer research. If not, click here to act now. What else can you do?

Send our Flash movie to your friends and family, and tell them to pass it on.

Together, we'll send a loud and clear message to the entities that fund breast cancer research that we need a new approach if we're going to stop the increasing rates of this disease and start saving women's lives.

Thank you for your activism.

Barbara
