Our members are our strength and we value the involvement of grassroots activists throughout the country and around the world to further our mission.
Breast Cancer Action was founded by a group of women who realized the power of community and recognized the need for a grassroots organization with a unique understanding of the political, economic, and social context of breast cancer that would carry the voices of women to end the breast cancer epidemic.
Today, BCAction’s members are women with breast cancer and their supporters — ordinary people who, by educating themselves on the facts and the issues related to breast cancer, have empowered themselves and others to create needed change to end the epidemic.
The goal of Community Leaders for Change (formerly the Speakers Bureau) is to collaboratively educate, empower and activate community leaders across the country and to support their efforts to develop and implement grassroots advocacy to affect change in the breast cancer epidemic. We do this by both providing leadership development of grassroots community activists while also creating dialogues with under-represented communities about breast cancer issues that are relevant and pressing for them.
Together we are working to change the conversation about breast cancer, identify emerging issues in breast cancer and propose new ways of thinking. Working together, we can ensure that women have access to more effective less toxic treatments for breast cancer, are protected from involuntary exposures to toxins that contribute to breast cancer and that social, economic, racial and political injustices that lead to differences in breast cancer outcomes, are understood and addressed.
