Breast Cancer Action’s executive director, Barbara Brenner, is the recipient this year of the California Public Health Association-North 2009 Helen Rodriguez-Trias Lighting the Way Presidential Award. The award recognizes Barbara’s work for the difference she has made in the fight against breast cancer. The CPHA-N described her as a fearless advocate for correcting misinformation given to the public about the disease. In his announcement of the award, Giorgio Piccagli, CPHA president, said of Barbara, “[H]er leadership of Breast Cancer Action has galvanized the organization in trying to illuminate how funds that are raised in the name of breast cancer research are actually spent.” Barbara was deeply honored to receive this award, and Breast Cancer Action’s staff and board extend their heartfelt congratulations to her.
