Free Webinar: Right to Try vs. False Hope

By Kate Frisher, Campaigns Coordinator

We’re excited to announce our second free webinar of 2018!

On Wednesday, February 7 at 1pm ET / 10am PT join us to learn about the alarming and controversial drug access legislation known as “Right to Try.” This webinar will break down the history of Right to Try legislation and help make sense of what the passage of federal legislation could mean for patient safety, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s authority to regulate drugs in development, and how it all affects you. Last but not least, we’ll provide opportunities for how and where you can add your voice to make a difference.

At first glance, the phrase “Right to Try” sounds great for patients—breaking down “barriers” terminally ill, including metastatic breast cancer, patients encounter when accessing experimental treatments via clinical trials. But the truth is patients can already access experimental drugs quickly through existing FDA programs.

Right to Try is misleading and suggests there’s a problem where one doesn’t exist. It does nothing more than allow patients to bypass the FDA to access potentially dangerous or useless treatments outside of the framework and medical oversight of existing programs. Right to Try is really “False Hope”—promising more than what it will give and potentially making it more difficult for proven new drugs to actually get to market for all.

Register for Wednesday, February 7 at 1pm ET / 10am PT

Our featured speaker is Alison Bateman-House, MPH, PhD, a medical ethicist with New York University’s School of Medicine. She is a public health expert with vast knowledge on bioethics, the FDA’s compassionate use program, and clinical trials. Dr. Bateman-House is a leader in her field.  She, along with other medical experts and patient advocates, has been a vocal critic of Right to Try legislation. Join us to learn more about why patients need treatments that work, not a free for all that undermines public health and medical progress.

  1. Chris Leonard says:

I was told in September 1993 if I did not get chemo and radiation I would be dead in 6 months at the soonest and only had a 1 in 5 chance to survive 5 years. I refused the useless and immune system damaging lymph node dissection, got a quadrantectomy not a total mastectomy, did a macrobiotic organic diet, removed all toxins from my environment and lowered my stress. 24+ years later I am still alive. All the women in my support group who did chemo and radiation were dead within 2 years of my diagnosis including one with a tumor identical to mine. I am distressed that all this time–2 1/2 DECADES later–women are still subjected to barbaric ‘treatment’ that just kills them faster. We’re all exposed to massive pesticides and other toxins–there’s no mystery why we get breast cancer. Mainstream medicine says “Let’s give you more toxins and radiate you!” So women die. It’s a scandal.
